Acts 1:8 Church
What does it mean to be an “Act 1:8 Church”?
An “Act 1:8 Church ” understands they do not exist for themselves. Filled with gratitude toward God for His goodness & mercy, they are intentional and committed to helping others find and experience life in Christ. Rooted in the Word of God and fervent in prayer, with humility and boldness, Great Commission Churches seek to be missionally faithful and fruitful by:
- Creating and maintaining a culture of evangelism (regularly sharing the gospel and equipping members in evangelism) and disciple -making (discipling new believers and equipping members to disciple others);
- Being intentional to reach the unreached (locally and globally), by going, sending, equipping, giving/supporting, promoting, partnering, and praying. This might include planting or supporting the planting of churches, especially among the most unreached peoples of the world, and collaborating with missionaries and other Christian workers in areas where the church is non-existent, small, or is lacking strong Christian witness.
- Equipping, encouraging, and strengthening other churches – so these too can become an “Act 1 Church”.

Prayers for Nigeria: Across Nigeria, many of our brothers and sisters in Christ gather to worship under the shadow of fear. Thousands of Christians have been displaced, abducted, or killed because of ongoing violence and instability. In fact, more believers are killed for their faith in Nigeria than anywhere else in the world. Yet my experience with the church in Nigeria is they are not defined by suffering alone—instead I witnessed resilient faith, deep courage, and enduring hope.
As their missionary partner, we’re called not to look away, but to pray intentionally and persistently.
What should we pray for?
- Protection—that God would shield vulnerable communities and guard those gathering in His name. We should pray daily for Bishop Auta as he leads the church in Nigeria.
- Comfort—for families grieving loss, for those displaced from homes, and for those carrying trauma that words can’t express.
- Strength and perseverance—that believers would remain rooted in Christ, even under unimaginable pressure.
- Transformation—that God to change hearts, bring peace to regions marked by violence, and raise up leaders who pursue justice.
Prayer is not passive; it is participation in God’s work. When we pray, we stand with the persecuted Church, bearing witness to a deeper truth. Because Christ is risen, even in places of suffering, hope is alive – and the Church will endure.
