Charge Conferences have gotten a bad name over the years, and it is time to reclaim that Holy Conferencing, Connectional living that Charge Conference allows each year. Rev. Steve Dodson, Lead Pastor of Thomson First Methodist Church and one of the 4 Presiding Elders, shares some of the resources and changes coming to this year's Charge Conferences. There will be a gauge of the hearts of clergy in this season, meaningful help in the Nominations Process, and a way to celebrate what is happening within local churches just in the initial reporting that is required. Then, we have an opportunity to come together with other local churches in our area this Fall and worship together, celebrate with each other what God is doing in our midst, and maybe learn how God could lead our congregations into where He is leading next! Free Money sounds like a dream, but in North Georgia, it is a reality. Like all good things, though, there is a catch. Debby Stikes serves on the Board of Ordained Ministry as the chairperson of the "Other" Subcommittee, and they have the joy of sharing the Educational Grant with Certified Candidates and Candidates in Process. Hear Debby and I share stories of God calling us into ministry, how we navigated some of the educational requirements, and what opportunities exist for those who are currently in seminary, in a course of study, or exploring their call to ministry. It's a new day for Certified Lay Ministry here in North Georgia as we have the opportunity to bring the training and equipping here to the area. We cannot thank the South Georgia Conference enough for helping us get started with CLM, and now we have the opportunity to do it here. Dan Parr, layperson, lawyer, and all-around servant has had the opportunity to go through the Certified Lay Ministry process through South Georgia and is now the Dean for North Georgia's CLM program. 2027 is fast approaching and there is currently opportunities to serve as an instructor for clergy, or to join the CLM program as a called layperson so that you can step into a season of serving the local church in your community and around the conference as needed! From tragedy over 30 years ago, the seeds of planting a heart for the people of Venezuela began in the heart of Rev. Dr. Warren Lathem. Beginning with Theological training through seminary classes that brought Wesleyan Theology to the country of Venezuela came the spark that would develop Churches, Medical Clinics, Schools, Food Programs, and now disaster relief for the people of Venezuela. And now, because of the seeds that were planted then, Venezuela Now has been able to quickly deploy the people who call themselves Methodists to the places damaged by the earthquakes to provide food, medical care, and the Gospel to the hardest hit areas. And right in the midst of all of this good stuff that is happening in Venezuela thanks to Venezuela Now, the Methodist Church in Venezuela has become an official Conference of the Global Methodist Church! "Family" has become to mean husband, wife, and 2.5 kids in society these days, but according to Dr. Rich Griffith (and the Bible), that is not a full understanding of the Gospel, or the ways that Jesus defines family. Author, Professor, Pastor, Speaker, and Parent, Dr. Griffith talks this time about how churches can really begin to reimagine "church" as a family, which makes a lot of sense as it is the title of his most recent book! What would the church look like if it embraced more intergenerational ministry where children sat with people who were their grandparents' age and learned to worship? What would it be if we actually showed up for each other, if we treated church members as family members? What would it be if we embraced families that look different than our ideas like single parents, moms or dads, adoptive parents, foster parents, grandparents, widows, orphans, and the list goes on? The Czech Republic may not be in North Georgia, but North Georgia GMC has been to the Czech Republic. Beginning with summer mission camps to bring the Gospel to the Czech Republic, a relationship was formed with the Methodists in the very center of Europe. Rev. Robin Parr was asked if she wanted to go, and the Holy Spirit slowly changed her heart to spend and serve a local church in the Czech Republic in 2026, preaching for about 3 months, meeting with college students, bringing hope to the sick, and encouraging the pastors that are serving in churches filled with our brothers and sisters in Christ! It's an option for other pastors to step into heading into 2027 and possibly beyond. Is God calling you to the Czech Republic? Reach out to Rev.
